Ford unveils Focus RS & Mondeo Eco
This time last year Ford was at the centre of everyone’s attention as it threw the covers off its brand new Fiesta.
12 months on and the firm’s presence at this year’s show is a little more low key, following a rush of launches last year.
Unlike earlier preview appearances at London and Paris the much talked about Focus RS makes its official debut as a production model here at Geneva. This latest RS-badged Ford has a lot to live up to as well, not least to appease the many critics of the last Focus to carry this illustrious badge.
Though everyone admired the aggressive looks and – mostly – the lairy bright green paint some expressed doubts 300hp could safely be transmitted through the front wheels alone. Having got behind the wheel we can confirm it is as exciting to drive as it is to look at, and in a good way.
How the Focus will measure up against rivals debuting at Geneva like the new 250hp Renaultsport Megane and 260hp Mazda 3 MPS will remain to be seen but we look forward to finding out. Green cars of another sort play a big part on the Ford stand too.
The firm’s ECOnetic range continues to grow and satisfies the need for every manufacturer to have a eco conscious presence on its stand. Ford is rightly celebrating the critical and sales success of the new Fiesta and Ka launched last year too. There’s also a refreshed version of the hard working Ranger pick-up making its debut here in Geneva.
