New electric three-seater from Nissan
Happily married to Renault, Nissan is almost an honorary home player here at Paris. And with flashy concepts and significant updates to old favourites it’s got plenty to shout about.
It also wins the prize for the show’s worst pun-based concept car name: the Nuvu. Helpfully Nissan explains this is a ‘new view’ of the firm’s vision for future city-based transport. Um, thanks chaps but I think we got that already. Electrically powered, the Nuvu previews technology due to be shown in production form next year.
That much rumoured electric vehicle will be bigger than the 2+1 Nuvu, which is designed as a city runabout. There’s a whole organic theme running through the car too, just in case you hadn’t picked up the message that its zero tailpipe emissions make it very much on-message in environmental terms.
Back in the real world Nissan is also debuting the Pixo, a compact and affordable runabout built in conjunction with Suzuki’s Indian division. And if you fancy a game of spot the difference head over to the Suzuki stand and have a look at the new Alto. Both offer excellent levels of efficiency.
The Note, meanwhile, is very much Nissan’s own. Apart from the bits shared with Renault, obviously. Anyway, it’s been facelifted with a new, more aggressive look and it makes its debut here at Paris. A sub 120g/km 1.5 diesel is a welcome addition to the range and there’s a revised interior too.
Other stuff you can see? Well, Nissan has brought a pair of GTRs, obviously, 25th anniversary Micras, 350Z, and the new Qashqai+2 seven-seater. It is also introducing a new label for its most economical models: “Pure Drive”. Don’t expect to see it attached to the latest Murano.
