New Avensis makes Paris debut
With photos released ahead of the show we had an idea of what the new Toyota Avensis would look like. But the stand at Paris is our first chance to see Toyota’s third-generation model in the flesh.
Hints of Lexus in the styling certainly add a bit of flair notably absent in the current edition, or indeed its predecessor. Built in Toyota’s Derbyshire plant and due on sale in the new year, the Avensis launches into the thick of a very competitive market packed with strong rivals.
So what does the Avensis bring to the party? Well it’s probably too much to expect the Avensis to offer Mondeo-style driver-focused enjoyment but established virtues of reliability and dependability should be present and correct, with the added bonus of sharper, more aggressive styling. Expect more info as we get closer to the launch.
The Avensis is just the start of Toyota’s new model frenzy here at Paris. And after causing scrums around its stand with the concept at last year’s Frankfurt show the production ready iQ makes its official debut. Given the concept was pretty much as per production there are few surprises but the buzz of excitement continues.
And if you saw the Urban Cruiser concept at London here’s your chance to see the production version. 133g/km emissions are impressive for the 1.4 diesel, especially given its four-wheel drive underpinnings and what Toyota describes as ‘urban off-roader’ ability. What’s that then – a licence to drive along pavements? Find out more over on the Toyota stand.
