Paris: Peugeot launches Prologue MPV hybrid
The French know all about national pride and Peugeot is staking its claim on hybrids to impress its home crowd. And whether you want your hybrids decent and practical or fast and stylish Peugeot has got something for you.
Sharing top billing with the Prologue MPV hybrid, Peugeot’s sleek dual-fuel four-door coupe aims to inject a bit of glamour into eco friendly motoring. There’s lots of flowery language around this car, the PR fluff describing it as ‘a synthesis of ideas’ and a ‘working laboratory’ while boasting some impressive stats.
Stats like 313bhp and emissions of 109g/km for instance. How has this been achieved? That’s where it gets a bit murkier but it certainly looks stunning and if its influence only stretches as far as the styling department there’d be no complaints there. It won’t though, Peugeot clearly taking hybrids very seriously.
That’s why it’s also debuting a fairly conventional looking mid-sized MPV powered by a combination of internal combustion and electric power. 200bhp and 109g/km – zero when running on purely electric power – and an interior boasting traditional French ideas of versatility and practicality should make for a handy combination too.
Hybrid power for the racetrack continues the theme, with an electrically assisted version of the diesel 908 HDI endurance racer. Charged by brake regeneration and able to give a 20-second, 80bhp overtaking boost, Peugeot is waiting to hear whether or not the rules can be modified to let it run at Le Mans next year.
