Guitar Hero 5 allows any instrument combo
In Guitar Hero 5, players will be able to customize the combination of instruments in their band for the first time.
Bryan Bright, the game’s project director, says that this will be “the most accessible Guitar Hero game to date” - and not only because now everyone in a four-piece band can play lead guitar.
Flexible Party Play
In a demo set to new track Kings of Leon’s Sex on Fire, we saw a four-person band rock out in Party Play mode: a new game mode that allows players to pick up an instrument and join in at any point, joining in and dropping out when they want.
With the new flexibility of band make-up, this means players can also switch instruments as they go along; in our demo, a traditional guitar-bass-vocals-drums combo eventually became a two-guitar, two-drumkit ensemble.

While the Party Play mode makes for accessible, pick-up-and-play action, the new head-to-head Rock Fest mode caters for competitive types.
In our demo, four guitarists played an Arctic Monkeys track in Rock Fest’s Momentum setting: a game type in which players attempt to outscore each other in real time, with a streak of three missed notes dropping you down a difficulty setting and a 20-note-streak taking you a setting higher.
